Why it matters

Warren Square is named for General Joseph Warren, the patriot physician who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Like its neighbors in the northeast ward, it is framed by modest but well-preserved antebellum houses and sees far fewer visitors than the squares along Bull Street.

The northeast quadrant of Savannah's historic grid — Warren, Washington, Greene, Columbia — offers a view of the city's residential fabric that the more famous squares obscure. Walking this quadrant is one of the quieter pleasures of a Savannah visit.

The quiet squares are where Savannah's residential life is still legible.
